Rain Forest: Monday July 3 Update

The Monday, July 3, Iowa Rain Forest update is now available at http://www.nicholasjohnson.org/politics/IaChild. (Scroll through the "Executive Summary," go one more screen, to the dates, and click on "July 3.")

The promised June announcement of the final site selection has failed to materialize, but there's more about who owns, and manipulates, the casino -- including the promise of foundation money for the rain forest before the foundation board had even considered the matter.

There are also a number of stories about the virtues of telling corporations they don't have to pay taxes (TIF, or tax incremental financing).

[
Every Monday since December 2005 there has been a weekly upload to the pre-existing Iowa rain forest Web site I maintain. In all, printed out it would run over 100 single spaced pages; there are, in addition, links to the full text of hundreds of newspaper stories and reports. It is very probably the most complete resource on the topic anywhere on the Web.

It is found at: http://www.nicholasjohnson.org/politics/IaChild. (Scroll down about one screen below the "Executive Summary" and click on the relevant date.)

Over the past few months the scope of the Web site has expanded from the rain forest project to include material related to the broader range of attractions and economic development generally in which the rain forest exists and by which it must be evaluated.]
